BUTTERWORTH, Sept 16 — Malaysia Day celebrations kicked off this morning as Malaysians from all walks of life gathered at the PICCA Convention Centre.
By 9am, the spirit of patriotism had already filled the venue, with visitors streaming into the foyer lined with stalls by government and private agencies, including RTM, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Penang Public Library Corporation, and Astro Radio.
The Information Department (JAPEN), in collaboration with Bernama, drew crowds with a special photo exhibit of historic Malaysia Day moments.
Carrying the theme “Malaysia Madani: People Minded”, the event, held for the first time in Penang, offered a variety of engaging activities for the public, such as a family colouring contest and an interactive Malaysia Day quiz.
Later in the evening, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Penang Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas, and Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya will grace the event.
There will also be vibrant performances featuring renowned Malaysian artistes including nation’s rock queen Ella, Suki Low, Roshini Balachandran, Dabra Sia, and Rezza Shah.
The Malaysia Day celebration is hosted by Sabah, Sarawak, and a peninsular state on a rotational basis.
