SHAH ALAM, Sept 15 — Floodwaters in Hulu Langat have fully receded following heavy rain early this morning, with cleanup operations now in progress.
Dusun Tua assemblyman Datuk Johan Abdul Aziz said the worst-hit areas were Dusun Tua, Batu 16, Sungai Serai, and Batu 18. However, he said most residents who were evacuated.
“Our focus now is to help residents clean their homes and surroundings. The temporary relief centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Serai has been identified as the evacuation site should flooding occur again. We pray we don’t face a repeat of 2021,” he told Media Selangor.
Residents reported on social media that water levels in Sungai Langat began rising around 4.30am before overflowing onto the main road, flooding nearby homes.
Meanwhile, Johan stated that several waste disposal sites near the river, including those at Batu 18, were closed two weeks ago to prevent pollution and health risks.
“The local council is preparing a new waste management plan for the villages, to be presented next week. Discussions with village heads will ensure a better organised collection system and curb illegal dumping.
“In the short term, we are deepening, widening, and cleaning the river and dredging sand. The Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department holds monthly meetings to monitor sand levels to prevent future overflows,” he said.
Johan also reminded residents to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness and use the designated disposal sites to avoid a recurrence of the problem.
