BUTTERWORTH, Sept 14 — The Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) project for Armed Forces Family Housing (RKAT) nationwide is scheduled for full completion by May 2027, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
Work is actively underway, with priority given to several major military camps, including the Butterworth Air Base and the Subang Air Base.
“For Butterworth Air Base, we expect it to be completed earlier, by January 2026. InsyaAllah (God willing), with the set priorities, Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) personnel will enjoy faster and more affordable Internet access,” he said after inspecting the FTTH project at RKAT Butterworth today.
Also present were Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) managing director Abdul Karim Fakir Ali.
Fahmi added that the FTTH project, which covered 73 military camps nationwide with more than 59,000 RKAT units, was a result of collaboration between MCMC and MAF through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on October 11 last year.
MAF personnel will be able to subscribe to the Perajurit Broadband package at RM49 per month for 100Mbps speed, with a promotional rate of RM39 per month for the first six months.
“This Internet service is not just for communication, but is vital in improving the quality of life of military personnel, supporting their children’s education, and strengthening family well-being in line with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani,” he said.
The delay in starting the project after its announcement in October 2024 was due to the tender process and security vetting of workers, which needed to be settled first.
Fahmi said that MCMC will continue to monitor the project’s implementation to ensure standards are met and maximum benefits are delivered to the Armed Forces community.
