SHAH ALAM, Sept 11 — Police successfully dismantled two drug trafficking syndicates in the Klang Valley by arresting five local men and seizing 164kg of various drugs worth RM16.7 million in three separate raids on Tuesday and yesterday.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the suspects, aged between 18 and 47, were detained in raids carried out in Banting, Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2), and around Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday afternoon and early yesterday morning.
In the first case, two local men were arrested in a car at a traffic light intersection in Banting at 3:45pm on Tuesday, while they were en route to Kuala Lumpur. A search of the vehicle uncovered 30 packages of ecstasy weighing 61.76kg and three packages of Erimin 5 weighing 9.85kg in the back seat.
The first suspect, a 47-year-old contractor and widower, had 18 prior criminal records while the second suspect, a 42-year-old unemployed man, had 22 prior records, both related to criminal and drug offences and the value drugs seized in this case was RM13.6 million, along with a necklace and watch worth RM15,500.
In the second case, an 18-year-old male, believed to be a drug transporter, was apprehended at 5:10am on Tuesday while waiting for a flight to Sarawak.
He had allegedly made several previous attempts to smuggle drugs, receiving RM1,000 per delivery and a search of his luggage revealed five plastic packages containing 4.5kg of syabu (methamphetamine).
This arrest led to a second raid on a condominium in Kuala Lumpur at 1:10pm the following day, where two more local men were detained while a search of the premises, used as a drug storage facility, uncovered 89 plastic packages of syabu weighing 86.795kg and a white drum containing 5.85kg of liquid syabu.
These two unemployed suspects were reportedly supplying syabu to the individual arrested at KLIA2 for distribution to Miri, Sarawak. The drug supply is believed to have originated from a neighboring country.
One of these suspects had a prior criminal record, while the other two had none. Urine tests conducted on all three were negative for drugs. The estimated total value of the drugs seized in this case was RM3.7 million.
The five suspects are currently under a seven-day remand order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code and are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
