Father and son burn to death in Sg Buloh house fire

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — The charred remains of a nonagenarian and his 62-year-old son were found burnt inside a single-storey house they resided in at Kampung Sri Indah A, Sungai Buloh, near here, that was destroyed in a fire early this morning.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received an emergency call at 12:50am. The first fire engine from the Sungai Buloh Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) arrived at the scene 10 minutes later.

“The fire involved a single-storey terrace house that was 80 per cent destroyed. Two male victims, a 94-year-old father and his 62-year-old son, were found burnt to death inside the house,” he said in a statement today.

He said the operation was also assisted by teams from the Damansara, Rawang, and Bukit Jelutong BBPs, involving 28 personnel and eight fire engines.

“The fire also destroyed two cars — a Perodua Alza and a Perodua Kancil — which were both 80 per cent damaged,” he added.

According to Mukhlis, the fire was brought under control at 3:40am and both victims were confirmed dead by medical personnel from the Health Ministry (MOH) at the scene.

He said the JBPM K9 unit was deployed to assist with forensic investigations, and the bodies of the victims were handed over to police.

“This morning, the fire team returned to the location for a follow-up and overhaul work to ensure the fire does not reignite,” Mukhlis said.
