SHAH ALAM, Aug 25 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state backs the federal government’s plan to build multi-storey schools to support local residents’ education needs.
He said the suggestion could be done in densely populated areas, with the model already implemented in developed countries.
“Vertical schools are widely built in developed countries and I believe we can use them, but they must adhere to guidelines set by (agencies including) the Town and Country Planning Department (PLANMalaysia).
“However, in Selangor, it is detailed in planning permits that schools must be provided (in residential areas), such as in Rumah Idaman Bukit Jelutong where schools and preschools are less than 100m away,” Amirudin said when met at an aid presentation ceremony to Form 6 students at Kolej Tingkatan Enam Shah Alam here today.
Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had mooted vertical schools in Residensi Aman Madani in Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Kuala Lumpur, to support the local community’s education needs.
He said that though there are primary schools in the neighbourhood, there were limited places, which demands the need for a new school in line with the growth in population.
In another development, Amirudin advised everyone not to jump to conclusions and form prejudices on the case of Zara Qairina Mahathir’s death.
“To impose punishments in bully cases causing death, we have to wait for police to complete their investigation and for the inquest to conclude. Don’t form conclusions based on prejudice.
“For instance, in the Putra Heights case, there were preconceived notions… If we went by public sentiment, we would’ve punished innocent people,” Amirudin said.
