SHAH ALAM, Aug 8 — Public parking in Selayang under the new Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) system will only be enforced once personnel are officially appointed, the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) said.
In a statement toThe Star, MPS Corporate Department director Zulaina Abu Talib said this is crucial to ensure an orderly implementation of the SIP, in compliance with established standard operating procedures.
“A coordination meeting between MPS and the new concessionaire was held on August 6 to discuss technical and operational matters, including payment systems and enforcement procedures,” she said.
“The new parking management system aims to be more systematic and efficient.”
Zulaina added that MPS remains committed to transparency and service delivery, with all efforts prioritising the convenience of users and the needs of Selayang ratepayers.
The SIP is being rolled out in phases across four local councils, namely MPS, Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).
It is part of the state government's move to streamline parking management for local councils.
The parking system will be jointly operated by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI subsidiary Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd, together with a concessionaire company and the local authorities.
The local authorities will retain full enforcement authority, while Rantaian Mesra will coordinate the system, and the appointed concessionaire will manage daily operations.
Subang Jaya, Shah Alam and Selayang have begun its implementation under the first phase, while negotiations with MBPJ are still ongoing.
In a related development,The Star reported that ITMax System Bhd announced that its 70 per cent-owned subsidiary Selmax Sdn Bhd has been appointed by MBSJ and MBSA to be the SIP operator in partnership with Rantaian Mesra.
The 10-year appointment includes an option for a five-year extension and covers the deployment, management and operation of all gazetted carpark spaces under both councils’ jurisdiction.
