KLANG, Aug 2 — All stakeholders, including government agencies, industry players, financial institutions, and the community, are urged to continue working together to support the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said such efforts would enable these businesses to grow and compete healthily in the market, ultimately contributing to the state’s economy.
“We want today’s micro-entrepreneurs to become successful business owners of tomorrow. To date, over 88,000 micro-traders have registered and joined various initiatives under the Platform Selangor (PLATS).
“They are not only gaining access to digital tools but also receiving training, financial support, and, most importantly, inclusive opportunities for growth,” he said in his speech at the PLATS Awards Night (MAPS) here last night.
Also present was state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi.
The ceremony, which was organised by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) to recognise the outstanding achievements of entrepreneurs who participated in PLATS' Entrepreneur Development Training (U-PLATS) programme, was officiated by Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.
During the event, His Highness presented awards to 18 recipients, who took home a total of RM32,000 in cash prizes along with trophies and appreciation plaques.
A total of 12 top micro-entrepreneurs at the local authority level were also recognised, receiving a combined cash prize of RM12,000.
Additionally, four entrepreneurs were honoured with the U-PLATS Halal Best Participant Award for successfully obtaining the Malaysian halal certification.
Kopi Opu business owner Kartinie Ramli was named the winner of the Grand Micro-Entrepreneur Award, taking home a cash prize of RM5,000.
Meanwhile, five entrepreneurs received special category awards under Community, Youth, Technological Revolution, Innovation, and Women, with a total prize pool of RM15,000.
Previously, Amirudin had said that PLATS is a comprehensive ecosystem that provides local entrepreneurs with opportunities to grow through access to training, financing, and market networks.
In 2023, MBI introduced the U-PLATS programme to help entrepreneurs manage their businesses digitally, with the involvement of 12 local authorities.
The training modules include topics such as introduction to entrepreneurship, social media and e-commerce, as well as digital content creation.
