SELAYANG, July 28 — Selgate Specialist Hospital Rawang, the state’s first private healthcare institution, is set to open soon.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the facility, developed by the state government through Selgate Corporation, a subsidiary of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), was built at a cost of RM150 million.

“We are awaiting approval from the Health Ministry to start operating. It will conduct an inspection soon.

“The hospital offers 60 beds, which will be increased to 200 by 2027. This is the first hospital to be directly developed by a state-owned institution, through PKNS,” he said at a press conference here today.

Amirudin said the facility is expected to enhance healthcare services in Rawang and meet growing medical needs in the surrounding district. He said the new facility will allow residents to receive prompt medical treatment without having to endure long waits typically associated with public healthcare.

“Previously, residents had to rely on Selayang Hospital, a public facility, which is about 20 to 25 minutes from here. This specialist hospital will elevate the standard of healthcare services for the people, while also benefiting residents in industrial areas such as Rawang, Tanjung Malim, Bukit Beruntung, and Lembah Beringin.”

Amirudin added that Selgate Corporation has become a key driver in developing the state’s public healthcare ecosystem since its establishment in 2015, with plans to build five more private hospitals across Selangor.

“Selgate operates a network of 16 clinics, including dental services, as well as laboratory and pharmacy chains. It also played a central role in vaccination efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Drawing from its valuable experience in handling the pandemic and Selgate’s growing role in improving the state’s healthcare system over the past decade, the state is now encouraged to develop more hospitals,” he said.

Earlier, Amirudin toured the hospital and met the staff.

He was also given a briefing by the Selgate Corporation management team, led by its chief executive officer Dato’ Noor Hisham Mohd Ghouth.
