AMPANG, July 17 — The state government is thinking of extending promotions under Visit Selangor Year (VSY) 2025 beyond this year, in light of overwhelming public interest.

The move could align Selangor’s goals with Visit Malaysia 2026.

State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said talks are underway to ensure the momentum from VSY2025 extends into next year.

“Due to the overwhelming response in Selangor, we are confident we can meet our goals,” he said during Tourism Selangor’s Media and Influencer Hi-Tea held at Tamarind Springs here today.

“We are already planning to extend promotions under the Visit Selangor campaign. Whether it’s by one or two years remains to be seen, but what’s certain is that we will extend it to keep up the momentum.”

Present at the event was Tourism Selangor CEO Chua Yee Ling.

Citing Statistics Department data, Ng said that last year, the state recorded 34.5 million domestic visitors, the highest in the country, for the fourth year straight.

He also praised the role of media and influencers in fuelling the campaign’s visibility and appeal.

In her speech, Chua revealed that as of March, tourist arrivals in Selangor stood at 1.77 million, with 72 per cent comprising domestic travellers.

The remainder included visitors from China, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and India.

Meanwhile, Ng reiterated his confidence that the state will achieve its goal of attracting eight million visitors and generating RM11.2 billion in tourist receipts by year end.

For Visit Malaysia 2026, the federal government aims to draw 45 million tourists. The latest tourism data showed that Malaysia welcomed some 38 million tourists last year.
