Care centre ‘whitening’ process: Over 300 operators bid for special grant

SHAH ALAM, May 7 — The state government is aiming for care centres in the state to be registered with the Social Welfare Department, through a special grant announced in January.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said 330 taska, old people’s homes, and people with disabilities care centre operators have applied for the maximum special grant of RM5,000.

“Several care centre operators’ applications have been approved but some haven’t due to incomplete documentation.

“We welcome (operators) to apply. This grant was introduced to ensure vulnerable groups like children, senior citizens, and people with disabilities receive safe, quality care,” Anfaal told Media Selangor.

In November last year, she announced a special grant for care centres without permits, to encourage operators to register with the Social Welfare Department.

With an allocation of RM400,000, the state government’s initiative aims to ensure all care centres in the state operate legally.
