SHAH ALAM, April 24 — Nearly RM1 billion has been channelled to 61,000 entrepreneurs in Selangor through Yayasan Hijrah Selangor since 2015 to March.

State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said of the total, RM125 million was given to entrepreneurs in Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya to grow their businesses.

“Since Hijrah Selangor was established, 92,000 (applications for financing were approved) to help 61,000 entrepreneurs, with a value of over RM860 million, almost RM1 billion.

“Hijrah Selangor is committed to empower the middle-class group with strategic initiatives including financing, guidance and accreditation to ensure continuous economic growth,” Najwan said.

He was met at an Aidilfitri event with Hijrah Selangor entrepreneurs here tonight. Also present were Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) chief executive officer Dato’ Saipolyazan M. Yusop and Yayasan Hijrah Selangor chief executive officer Dato’ Mearia Hamzah.

Najwan advised entrepreneurs who have received funds from Hijrah Selangor to repay the loans on schedule.

“The repayment rate since last year has risen by 97 per cent. Entrepreneurs must remember that Hijrah Selangor is not a loan shark and will not pursue them. Instead, it will give them room to (renegotiate their) repayment schedules.

“We are flexible and will help them plan their cash flow, but if they refuse to pay even after being called up and having their repayment schedules rearranged, we will not hesitate to take strict action,” he said.
