SUBANG JAYA, April 13 — Kota Kemuning assemblyman S. Preakas today urged that flood mitigation projects be intensified and expedited to prevent further instances of the recurring disaster.

He requested the attention and cooperation of all parties as floods in his constituency affect thousands of people.

“The floods have receded, and victims at temporary relief centres have gone home. Only the unwell ones remain.

“I stand by actions taken by the state government, but I believe they aren’t enough. We hope flood mitigation projects can be expedited and elevated.

“I don’t want my constituents to experience this over and over. We need the attention of cooperation of all parties. Residents must contribute their efforts too, and not litter carelessly,” he said when met today.

On Friday, flash floods hit several districts in Selangor after continuous heavy rain in Puchong, Shah Alam, Klang and Hulu Langat.

State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the floods were due to heavy rain and the high-tide phenomenon.

Najwan advised flood victims to evacuate to relief centres if ordered to do so, to prevent untoward incidents.
