SHAH ALAM, April 21 — The Menteri Besar’s political secretary Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad today accepted a memorandum from Taman Sri Muda on recurring floods in the neighbourhood.
He said the memorandum, which was handed to him during a special visit to the Taman Sri Muda Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) sluice gate, will be passed to Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
“The special visit over complaints about the Taman Sri Muda floods was joined by Kota Kemuning assemblyman S. Preakas, representatives from offices of the state executive councillors for infrastructure and disaster management, the JPS director, the Tenaga Nasional Bhd director, and related agencies as well as residents,” Saifuddin said.
At a meeting during the visit, Selangor JPS director Dato’ Mohd Nazri Yasmin briefed the delegation on flood mitigation works, as well as how the state government is helping expedite the projects, Saifuddin said in a Facebook post.
Earlier, Preakas said a special task force will be set up to oversee flood mitigation projects in the area.
He added that the team would comprise residents, councillors, representatives from the Menteri Besar’s office, who will monitor the project slated to start at the end of May or early June.
Last week, several areas in Selangor were hit by flash floods following heavy rain in Puchong, Shah Alam, Klang and Hulu Langat.
State executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi said the floods occurred due to the simultaneous high-tide phenomenon and heavy rain.
