Adam Adli urges victims of sports-related fraud to file police reports

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim has urged victims of fraud cases involving sports activities to file police reports so that strict action can be taken.

He said they are aware of two recent cases, namely a badminton training package and the organisation of a non-existent football tournament in Ipoh on Saturday (February 22).

"I urge that police reports be made and we will ensure investigations are carried out on our end as well (including action by the Sports Commissioner).

"If it involves any national, state, district sports association or parties affiliated with the ministry, we demand strict action," Adam said.

He was speaking to the press after officiating a Pineapple Management (Exposure and Training Course) and the Construction Personnel (Green Card) Course by the Construction Industry Development Board today.

Earlier, a viral video alleged that many parents had fallen victim to a badminton training package for school children, costing tens of thousands of ringgit, using various academy names as a lure to deceive.

The other sports fraud was a football carnival of Under-14 11-a-side and Under-16 ASM Cup & 2025 Big Pos Cup, which was supposed to take place at 7am pm Saturday but did not materialise.

In other developments, Adam said the recent success of national junior female cycling sensation Sawda Hasbullah, who broke the world record in the one-kilometre women's time trial at the 2025 Asian Track Cycling Championships at the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan on Sunday (February 23).

This achievement shows that the country is not lacking in new talent for the sport.

"We know that track cycling is limited (to a velodrome) and not the same as road cycling because not everyone can access the sport.

"But it does not mean there is no development of new talents; there is always a pool of talent and Sawda herself is a testament to the success of the cycling legion," he said.

Sawda, who also won gold in the final, recorded one minute 10.818s to break the record set by Taiwan's cyclist Liu Shang Ying (1:12.722s) in the qualifying round (world body UCI has confirmed that Sawda's time stands as a new world junior record).

Meanwhile, Adam praised the National Athletes Welfare Foundation's initiative of organising the two courses as it provides former athletes with opportunities to explore new sectors capable of generating income after their dedication to the nation in their respective sports careers.
