SHAH ALAM, Feb 18 — Reselling Ramadan bazaar licences to third parties could lead to higher prices, which will burden consumers, warned Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.
In his Royal address, the Selangor Sultan said Ramadan bazaar spots should be allocated only to genuine entrepreneurs, not manipulated or sold by irresponsible parties.
“I want these (Ramadan) bazaar lots to be given to only those who genuinely intend to do business, not to be manipulated or resold by irresponsible parties.
“The resale of Ramadan bazaar licenses to third parties will drive up prices, placing a burden on the people,” he said during the opening of the First Meeting of the Third Term of the 15th Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.
On February 10, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim warned that Ramadan bazaar licences found to have been resold would be immediately revoked.
He said this is necessary as some parties have been reselling their licences for a quick profit.
State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi issued similar warnings to Ramadan bazaar traders in the state against such unethical practices.
Meanwhile, in his address, Sultan Sharafuddin urged the state civil servants, particularly district officers and local authorities, to uphold integrity and refrain from corruption or abuse of power.
His Royal Highness said department heads must take responsibility for ensuring transparency and accountability and preventing any misuse of authority.
“To government officers and civil servants in Selangor, especially those in district offices and local authorities, I urge you to carry out your duties with integrity and stay away from corruption and embezzlement.
“I do not want to hear any more cases of land ownership and business licenses being misused for personal gain,” the Ruler said.
