SHAH ALAM, March 28 — The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK), in collaboration with Pertubuhan Pemuda Gema Malaysia, has retrieved nearly one tonne of surplus food from Ramadan bazaars through the MySaveFood programme.

Its Mayor Dato' Abd Hamid Hussain said two bazaars were involved: the Ramadan Bazaar along Jalan Sri Sarawak in Taman Sri Andalas and the Ramadan Bazaar at Simpang Empat, Teluk Pulai.

“A total of 969.61 kg of surplus food, which was still in good condition and fit for consumption, was successfully rescued between March 17 and March 21.

“We then distributed the surplus meals to Surau An-Nur, Bengkel Daya Klang, Maahad Tahfiz Al-Hirah, and Pertubuhan Nur Kasih in Klang,” he said during the council's full monthly meeting today.

In conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Hamid also announced that MBDK will provide a transit vehicle service to the Selat Klang Muslim cemetery.

“This transit vehicle service will be available next to the cemetery office to facilitate visits by families and relatives during the festive period.

“In addition, all MBDK-owned public markets will be closed on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri and will reopen on the second day,” he said.
