KUALA KUBU BHARU, Feb 9 — The number of international tourists visiting Selangor has recorded a five per cent increase following the launch of Visit Selangor Year (TMS) 2025, said Dato’ Ng Suee Lim.

The state executive councillor for local government and tourism said that international tourist arrivals averaged 30 per cent in 2023 but saw an uptick in December of last year.

“Initially, we expected local tourists to make up 70 per cent and international tourists 30 per cent. However, in December, we observed an increase of 35 per cent.

“If this trend continues, we are confident that international tourist arrivals could match those of domestic tourists throughout this year,” he told reporters.

Earlier, Ng launched the 2025 Joran Festival at Tasik Fraser Valley. Also present was Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling.

Commenting on the event, Ng said the 2025 Joran Festival received an encouraging response, with 710 anglers participating, surpassing the initial target of 500.

He said the event, organised in collaboration with the private sector, demonstrates the popularity of fishing and its potential as a tourist attraction.

“We were surprised by the overwhelming response from anglers. This proves that fishing is gaining attention and has the potential to attract international tourists,” he said.

The 2025 Joran Festival offers a total prize pool of RM20,000, with a participation fee of RM50.
