Keadilan postpones national congress, orders members to aid flood victims

SHAH ALAM, Nov 30 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s central leadership council has directed its branch members to help flood victims in the state, including with post-flood cleanup.

Its information chief Fahmi Fadzil said the council has decided that the national party congress will be postponed due to continuous flooding.

“Keadilan expresses its condolences to the over 131,000 victims of floods that have hit nine states thus far, he said in a statement today.

According to the Info Bencana portal, the flood victim toll is at 142,799 (42,886 families) as at 5.30pm today.

Throughout the nation, 709 temporary relief centres are in operation. Kelantan accounts for the highest number of victims (91,077 from 28,229 families).

Fahmi said a special congress to amend the party constitution will be held in hybrid mode, with the date to be announced by the secretary-general.

He added that party leaders have discussed the increasingly concerning issue of bullying at schools and higher learning institutions.

“Keadilan suggested several policies be looked into, including comprehensive bullying awareness campaigns.”
