SHAH ALAM, Nov 20 — The state government, through Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), is exploring water treatment methods powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim said the technology would be used to forecast and detect the quality of raw water from rivers before it is processed at Selangor’s 34 water treatment plants.
“The state government is always open to AI usage, including advanced analytics and long-range sensors that can control the detection of water levels for the early warning of floods and water quality.
“The state is confident this AI-powered water management system can conserve water, lower costs and contribute to environmental sustainability,” he said in reply to Semenyih assemblyman Nushi Mahfodz’s question about using AI to detect water levels and for the early warning of floods during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma DNS here today.
Izham also said the water levels at seven dams in Selangor surpassed 90 per cent as of November 4.
“The Sungai Selangor dam water level is at 98.51 per cent, Sungai Semenyih dam at 97.17 per cent, Sungai Langat dam at 97.15 per cent, Sungai Batu dam at 96.89 per cent, Sungai Tinggi dam at 94.4 per cent, Tasik Subang dam at 94.18 per cent, and Klang Gates dam at 91.8 per cent,” he said.
