KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) said 1,008.56km of its pipes have been replaced since last December, an initiative that has lowered the risk of burst pipes and disrupted supply to consumers.
Air Selangor CEO Adam Saffian Ghazali said replacement efforts have been ongoing since 2016, and were intensified last year with the aim of replacing 300km of pipeline every year.
“This is the company’s initiative towards a more reliable water supply. After old pipes were replaced, the burst pipe index shrank to 3.25 cases per 100km last year.
“The previous year, the index logged 4.18 cases of burst pipes per 100km. We will try to overcome the issue of burst pipes in the future,” he said after presenting the Air Selangor annual sustainability report for 2024 today.

Adam Saffian said Air Selangor will maintain a high rate of compliance with the potable water quality standards set by the Health Ministry — 99.93 per cent.
“Our compliance of over 99 per cent has been consistent for four straight years. Air Selangor has recorded various achievements and positively impacted the economy, nature, and society,” he added.
In February, Air Selangor announced a higher pipe replacement rate from 150km to 300km per year, with the rate to be increased further to 400km from 2034.
The step followed new water tariffs that took effect on February 1, 2024.
