SHAH ALAM, Oct 7 — Selangor will focus on accelerating innovation in the public service sector for the upcoming year, in line with current technological advancements.

State executive councillor for Islamic Affairs and cultural innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said initiatives at the state government offices, subsidiaries, agencies, and local authorities aim to provide services that benefit the public.

“We are focusing on innovations that can solve the people's problems. At the same time, we are expanding existing innovations to incorporate the use of artificial intelligence.

“For example, for meeting minutes, we will use speech-to-text technology, which will shorten the time needed to prepare the minutes. Decisions can also be made more quickly,” he said.

Speaking at the Selangor Innovation Festival (FIS) today, Fahmi said he is hopeful for a higher allocation when the 2025 Selangor Budget is tabled next month, compared to this year’s RM900,000, to further drive innovation growth.

The inaugural FIS involves all state public sector employees and aims to expose workers to training and courses on the latest technologies.

Held at Dewan Jubli Perak in the State Secretariat Building, the programme also offers grants as a step to encourage participants to explore innovation further.
