KUALA LANGAT, July 31 — Content from the ever-popular Selangor People’s Tutoring Programme (PTRS) will soon be easier accessible to students through the launch of its mobile application next month.
The move is timely considering the increasing number of beneficiaries for the state’s free tuition initiative.
“PTRS will be expanded in the form of a mobile application for easier access. It will be launched by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari on August 13,” said Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor today.
He added that physical copies of the programme’s module are also available in schools, while soft copies are accessible via PTRS’ website.
Azri was speaking to the press after attending a ceremony to present the learning module to and hand over fund contributions for parent-teacher associations of schools in the Kuala Langat district.
Introduced in 2009, PTRS offers free tuition for the subjects of Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics, Science, History, and Additional Mathematics, targeting students from low-income families.
He said some 130,000 Form Four and Five students across the state are set to benefit from the free tuition programme this year.
The initiative involves students from over 230 schools with a RM10 million allocation, compared to the RM7 million last year.
“Some schools will begin physical classes for PTRS this week, although the programme will only be officially launched by Amirudin on August 13,” Azri said.
Meanwhile, SMK Bandar Saujana Putra principal Azman Sharif praised the state government's efforts to help underprivileged students attend tuition classes.
"The PTRS module is also designed based on the latest question format and marking methods from the Education Ministry for SPM, thereby preparing students to face the examination," he said.
