SHAH ALAM, July 22 — Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) has been recognised as firm of the year in the water services category at the recent Malaysia Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards 2024.
Its new chief executive officer (CEO) Adam Saffian Ghazali said the community care award is an honour for the agency’s continuous efforts to supply clean water in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
“This is in line with Air Selangor’s promise to ensure every drop counts for its 9.3 million users.
“The recognition also reflects Air Selangor’s dedication to ensuring high-quality water services, as well as its ongoing efforts in promoting sustainability and social responsibility,” he said in a statement dated July 18.
The award ceremony, held at Berjaya Times Square on July 18, was organised by CSR Malaysia Publications to honour outstanding firms that excelled as agents of change in Malaysia’s socio-economic transformation.
Adam said the state water services provider has implemented three CSR programmes — Box of Hope, Festive CSR, and Online Learning Empowerment.
“The pioneering Box of Hope programme has significantly benefited 5,775 families since its launch in 2020. Air Selangor also provided donations during festive seasons, distributing aid to 3,746 recipients in 54 welfare homes since 2021.
“Additionally, Air Selangor has provided access to interactive education through the Online Learning Empowerment programme for B40 students to continue receiving quality education. Since 2023, 375 SPM students have benefited from the initiative,” he said.
To foster the spirit of volunteerism, Adam said Air Selangor established the Hydro Heroes programme to enable its staff to serve and contribute to the community.
“Through this programme, 259 staff have participated since its introduction,” he said.
Adam was appointed as Air Selangor’s CEO on July 15, succeeding Abas Abdullah, who served as the acting CEO from January 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024.
Abas has since resumed his role as Air Selangor’s operations director.
Adam brings with him 24 years of combined experience in the water services and utility industries.
Throughout his career, he has held various key positions such as Aliran Ihsan Resources Bhd CEO; MMC Corporation Bhd special projects general manager; and Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd chief financial officer.
He was also previously attached to PricewaterhouseCoopers, and was Alam Flora Sdn Bhd CEO.
