PETALING JAYA, June 12 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has rolled out new commercial activity guidelines to assist entrepreneurs in growing their businesses.

Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said this will ensure micro and macro entrepreneurs can operate with greater confidence in the city, create better job opportunities and stimulate the local economy.

He said the guidelines, which were launched today, are divided into three categories.

The first involves guidelines for five different business activities and services: go-karting, golf simulators, pet hotels, pet grooming, and drive-through pawn shops.

The second involves guidelines for regularising unlicensed businesses in Kampung Cempaka and Old Town, while the third covers businesses operating in front of residences in Taman Medan.

“Take Kampung Cempaka, for example. There are about 40 businesses that have been operating for up to 20 years but are without licences. Under these guidelines, they will be given a business licence of up to five years to ensure the safety of their premises,” Zahri said.

He was speaking at a press conference after launching the guidelines at Dewan Banquet MBPJ today.

Zahri added that the guidelines are implemented in line with the Thematic Economically Vibrant City (EVC) initiative, under the Petaling Jaya Smart, Sustainable, and Resilient Plan 2030.

“They will also be carried out to stimulate the national and state economy, aligning with the First Selangor Plan’s strategic theme of economic strengthening,” he said.
