PETALING JAYA, Jan 19 — Joy was evident on the faces of 100 recipients, including senior citizens and single mothers in Petaling Jaya, who received RM300 in contributions each from the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).

Its Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the initiative, implemented annually in conjunction with Chinese New Year, aims to alleviate the burden on underprivileged groups within the local authority's jurisdiction.

"Chinese New Year is not just about traditions and celebrations, but also an opportunity for us to serve and help those in need.

"It reflects MBPJ's spirit of care and inclusivity, ensuring that no group is left behind," he said after the presentation ceremony at the Petaling Jaya Arena Sports Complex yesterday.

The recipients also included individuals from the B40 and urban poor groups in the city.

Zahri added that the initiative is part of MBPJ's social responsibility, aligned with the state government's goals under the First Selangor Plan, particularly the second strategy focusing on enhancing well-being and social inclusivity.

"Since Petaling Jaya was named the happiest city last year, we continue to embody that happiness through initiatives like this," he said.
