SHAH ALAM, May 16 — Education remains a key agenda for the Unity Government in Selangor, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari in his teacher’s day message today.

Amirudin said as the individual overseeing the education portfolio in the state government, his role is not only to ensure the future of Selangor’s children is secured, but also to safeguard the welfare of teachers.

He said various initiatives and programmes have been drawn up and implemented by the state to make sure educators and students receive continuous support.

“From increase of Quran and Fardu Ain (Kafa) teachers’ allowance to Social Security Organisation (Socso) contributions, people’s tuition programme, schooling aid and parent-teacher association contributions, the Unity Government endeavours to create a conducive learning environment for educators and students,” he posted on Facebook.

In the post, Amirudin extended his Teachers’ Day greeting to all educators in the state “who tirelessly dedicate themselves to educating the children”.

This year, the Selangor government has allocated close to RM13 million for the education sector to ensure the success of its initiatives.

Among others, RM10 million has been earmarked for the free Selangor People’s Tutoring Programme, while RM1 million is allocated each for school infrastructure improvements and provision of internet data.

A further RM500,000 is for parent-teacher association support, RM150,000 for electronic devices, and RM200,000 for asnaf students, via contribution from the National Education Savings Scheme.

On August 1 last year, Amirudin said the state would fulfil educators’ needs, including by utilising technology and digital resources, to ensure the education sector is empowered.
