SHAH ALAM, April 2 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has successfully collected 6,083kg of excess food at Ramadan bazaars in the past two weeks.
This is part of the local council’s ongoing MySave Food@Ramadan Bazaar campaign.
Shah Alam Mayor Cheremi Tarman said the response from bazaar traders has been highly encouraging and commended their efforts to curb food wastage.
"We are considering expanding the programme next year to encompass more Ramadan bazaars, compared to just the three this year.
"This initiative has garnered favourable feedback. Concurrently, it has aided those in need with access to free food," he said after an MBSA event providing free petrol to motorcycles at Petronas petrol station in Section 7 today.
The MySave Food@Ramadan Bazaar initiative, pioneered by MBSA four years ago, involves collecting excess food unsold at Ramadan bazaars for distribution to the less fortunate.
This year's programme encompasses three bazaars in Shah Alam, including Section 13, Section 17, and Section 19.
