MBSJ collects 110kg used cooking oil, 602kg excess food from bazaars

SHAH ALAM, March 21 — A total of 110kg of used cooking oil were collected from four Ramadan bazaars under the Subang Jaya City Council’s (MBSJ) jurisdiction as of Monday. 

Its corporate communications division said the highest collection was recorded at the Bandar Kinrara Ramadan bazaar with 28kg, followed by USJ 4 (29kg), Taman Puncak Jalil (26kg) and Taman Puchong Prima (17kg).

“This used cooking oil collection programme is being carried out throughout the duration of Ramadan bazar organisation. It’s done every Saturday from 5pm to 7pm. 

“Traders who participate will be given RM3 cash per kilogramme of cooking oil. Free jerry cans will also be issued to those who collect a minimum of 10kg,” it said in a statement today. 

Themed ‘Collect, Generate, and Get Cash', the programme has also received cooperation from Petronas Dagangan Berhad, which offers free cooking gas exchanges to traders on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

In addition, recycling bins for used cooking oil are also provided at seven other Ramadan bazaars, namely at USJ 7, Dataran Puchong Permai, Taman Puchong Indah, Taman Puchong Utama, Bandar Bukit Puchong, Taman Seri Serdang, and Taman Equine.

Meanwhile, MBSJ said a total of 602kg of excess food, worth approximately RM14,448, have been collected as of Saturday. 

The programme in collaboration with non-governmental organisation What A Waste, which debuted at the USJ 4 bazaar, has been expanded to six other locations this year.
