SHAH ALAM, March 20 — The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) has allocated RM100 million for cleaning works to ensure the city remains clean and healthy for its residents.

Deputy Mayor Mohd Zary Affendi Mohd Arif said continuous monitoring and strict enforcement are also actively carried out, considering the high cost involved in cleaning works.

“In addition, MBDK also constantly provides support and cooperation to any quarters organising community clean-up programmes, including supplying equipment,” he said during the council’s monthly assembly yesterday.

Zary added that MBDK’s Environmental Services Department also conducts static operations at dumpsites to monitor and control waste disposal activities.

“To date, 140 illegal dumpsites have been identified, and 84 have been shut down permanently. We hope the estimated 40 per cent remaining sites can be completed by this year,” he said.

Similarly, the council’s recycling and used cooking oil collection programme will continue to be carried out on the fourth week of every month.

"The collection of recyclable items and used cooking oil will be conducted from January to December.

"In addition, various recycling activities are also organised for the Klang community to increase public awareness of the importance of recycling practices among the local community," Zary said.
