PETALING JAYA, March 9 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI has allocated RM1 million for its food basket programme this year.
Its corporate social responsibility head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said this annual initiative will help to alleviate the burden of low-income groups, especially as the Ramadan fasting month approaches.
"Food baskets applications are still open, and individuals who wish to apply can go to their respective state constituency's community service centres to do so.
"Several non-governmental organisations are also cooperating in the programme, alongside residents' associations," he told SelangorKini.
Earlier today, Azri handed 150 food baskets to low-income families at Pangsapuri Idaman, in Damansara Damai.
One recipient, Uzainawati Abd Rahman, 49, expressed gratitude for the contribution, saying it will help her family prepare for Ramadan.
"It is very good to receive such assistance especially in the current situation with the school term ending soon and Ramadan approaching; it is very helpful, so I thank the state government," said the mother of three.
Pensioner Hashim Kamal Mahadi, 72, hopes this aid will continue as it greatly helps to save on kitchen expenses for the underprivileged.
"May this initiative continue as the majority of the residents here have low incomes, and coupled with the rising living costs, this assistance comes at the right time," he said.
