Serving the needy: MBI allocates RM1 mln for food basket programme

SHAH ALAM, Jan 4 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, has allocated RM1 million to ensure the success of its food basket programme this year.

Its social responsibility and corporate communications head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the fund is meant to ensure more individuals from underprivileged communities can benefit from the aid.

"Previously, food baskets were distributed without the provision of a special allocation. This year, we have allocated funds specifically for the programme, ensuring that distributions are tailored to individual needs, especially during the festive season.

"With this special allocation, we can extend assistance to a larger number of underprivileged individuals, thereby alleviating their burden,” he said when contacted today.

Azri added that RM150,000 will be allocated to purchase laptops, which will be donated to less privileged Selangor undergraduates.

"These laptops will be equipped with a free Internet SIM card valid for 12 months.

“In fact, the provision of these free SIM cards has been extended to students from Selangor who are studying in universities across Malaysia, and not just limited to those within the state," he said.

Two years ago, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said MBI would allocate RM18 million for corporate social responsibility programmes, including sacrificial livestock activities, the Hajj, and Selangor’s free tuition programmes.
