PN cry for change in Selangor but have nothing to show for it — Amirudin

HULU KELANG, July 22 Despite Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) rallying cry for change in Selangor, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has slammed the opposition party for lacking convincing arguments and solutions in their attempts to win the state in the upcoming state election.

The Menteri Besar stressed that Selangor voters should reject those who try to sway them by engaging in racial and religious sentiments, as such divisive tactics have no place in the state.

“They (PN) keep crying for change. Change of what? Perhaps just the menteri besar and the elected representatives, but they have not come up with anything substantial or conducive to the economy or policies.

“So they just rely on (racial and religious) narratives. They wanted to represent change, but they have nothing to show for it,” said Amirudin during the Kita Hulu Kelang event with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Rumah Pangsa PKNS AU2 in Taman Keramat here last night.

Also present was Selangor Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin.

Amirudin stated that the state government under his leadership had increased efforts to return state wealth to the population, such as introducing 46 people-centric welfare programmes.

He also stressed that Selangor’s strength lies in its multiculturalism and diversity, and it is essential to uphold these values to foster unity and harmony among its people.

“What is happening in politics today is that the leadership has a sense of maturity and wants to unite Malaysia, find a middle ground and keep religious extremism at bay.

“Selangor must find the balance as we celebrate all cultures and religions as part of the larger Selangor community.

“To me, this is because we need the support of those who remain in Selangor, and they, in turn, deserve all the support that we (as the state government) can offer,” he said.

Addressing more than 1,000 attendees, Amirudin also reassured the residents of Hulu Kelang that, if re-elected, he would do his best to bring development to the constituency, especially upgrading old apartment buildings built in the neighbourhood in the 1970s.

Apart from Selangor, other five states Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu — will be heading to the polls on August 12.

The Election Commission has set the nomination of candidates in the six states on July 29.
