GOMBAK, Aug 30 — Pakatan Harapan still has room to discuss the possibility of cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN) in facing the Melaka state election, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Harapan election director said there was still time to watch political developments before deciding on the proposed cooperation.
“There is still time; let us wait and see how things develop. I am not in a position to make the decision. So, I have been asked to hold discussions.
“So, I said, alright, let us discuss it. If no one is willing to discuss it, what can we do? We will carry on,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking after the Mesra Rakyat programme for the Gombak Parliamentary constituency at Dewan Mutiara, SMK Sungai Pusu today.
He added that each party has its own approach to seeking public support, so current political developments need to be assessed strategically.
The political landscape is becoming increasingly fluid, while changes in relations between political parties show that the possibility of political cooperation should not be viewed statically.
“Previously, BN and PAS were fighting and accusing each other of being kafirs. Now they are working together. So, politics is becoming more fluid, and we have to look at it strategically,” Amirudin said.
On Tuesday (August 25), Prime Minister cum Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim gave Amirudin, in his capacity as election director, the mandate to work out the details of cooperation between the coalition and BN in preparation for the Melaka state election.
When asked about the meeting, Anwar said the details included seat allocation, which is also linked to preparations for the election.
