Selangor Sultan receives over RM7 mln in business zakat for the state

SHAH ALAM, March 31 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj received business zakat from four corporate organisations valued at RM7,077,692.24, during a ceremony yesterday.

The presentation of the zakat funds to His Royal Highness took place during the fast-breaking with members of the public at Masjid Al-Istiqamah in Kayangan Heights.

At the head of the zakat contributions was Central Sugar Refinery Sdn Bhd, represented by its chief executive officer Mohamad Zuki Wan Abdullah, which contributed RM3 million.

They were followed by Pintas Utama Sdn Bhd, represented by its executive chairman Tan Sri Zainudin Karjan who presented RM1.5 million, and Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad by its group chief executive officer Mohd Muazzam Mohamed with RM1.49 million.

Meanwhile, Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad contributed approximately RM1,087,692.24 in business zakat, which was presented by its chief executive officer Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar Raja Salim.

Sultan Sharafuddin was accompanied by the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin dan the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.

Also in attendance was Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari, Selangor Islamic Religious Council chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, and the Royal Mufti of Selangor Datuk Setia Anhar Opir.

The fast-breaking was also attended by Selangor Zakat Board chairman Tan Sri Ambrin Buang and its chief executive officer Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbin.
