PUCHONG, FEB 23 — Close to 4,000 Jom Shopping vouchers for Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) were distributed to recipients living in the Kinrara state constituency, as of yesterday.

Its community service centre supervisor Rachel Lee Pooi Won said the distribution process is carried out here on a daily basis.

"Every day sees the vouchers distributed to around 200 to 300 recipients, and now recipients do not have to wait for their birth month to collect them.

"We only carry out the voucher distribution at the service centre office, so as to make it easier for residents to ask and apply for any assistance provided by the state government," she said during the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat roadshow for the Kinrara state constituency, earlier today.

First introduced over a decade ago as a gesture of appreciation for Selangor’s elderly population, each SMUE recipient enjoys the benefit of birthday gift vouchers and death benefits.

Starting this year, the vouchers’ value was increased to RM150, with the same amount provided to Skim Mesra Insan Istimewa (SMIS) recipients, involving an allocation of RM37.5 million.

The monthly household income eligibility limit for Jom Shopping voucher recipients has also been increased from RM2,000 to RM3,000.

Previously, SMUE recipients received a RM100 shopping voucher for select supermarkets in their birth month, which was handed to them at the community service centre of their respective state constituency.
