PUTRAJAYA, Jan 13 — Leading hypermarket operator Lotus will launch its concept store at Arena XChange in Warisan Puteri, Sepang, in the second quarter of this year.
The Lotus concept store will take up eight retail shop office units totalling over 1,000 square meters (10,764 sq ft) at IOI Properties Group Bhd’s (IOIPG) commercial development.
IOIPG chief executive officer Datuk Voon Tin Yow said having the hypermarket in Sepang was in line with IOIPG’s mission to create innovative products and services and to enrich the community.
"The unique supermarket concept store provides a wide range of offerings for the everyday needs of a growing and thriving community," he said at a media briefing on Arena XChange and Lotus here today.
Arena XChange is a freehold development located between Cyberjaya and the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), about 17 km from Putrajaya. It comprises 49 units of three and four-storey dual frontage shop offices and four-storey shop offices with a private lift.
Lotus Malaysia president Kenneth Chua said the proposed launch of the first concept store is significant besides meeting the government’s standards for foreign participation.
“Our research showed that customers nowadays prefer doing their grocery shopping quickly in smaller stores that provide comparable availability, selection and convenience," he said.
The Thai-based retail chain is also seeking opportunities to partner with developers with strategic locations in order to expand, he said.
Lotus will also be able to attract other businesses to come forward, thereby increasing employment opportunities.
