SHAH ALAM, Jan 5 — Thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds are expected in eight Selangor districts until 7pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a warning issued by the agency at 4.36pm on Facebook, the affected areas are Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.
“Other states to be hit with similar weather conditions are Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan. Stormy weather is also expected in Perak (Hulu Perak, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Jeli, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang), Pahang (Rompin), Negeri Sembilan (Seremban and Port Dickson) and Johor (Segamat and Kluang).
“Meanwhile in East Malaysia, thunderstorms are forecasted in Sarawak: Sri Aman (Sri Aman), Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah (Dalat and Mukah) and Bintulu, as well as Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Tambunan), Pantai Barat and Sandakan (Beluran),” it said.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
