SHAH ALAM, Dec 21 — Thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds are expected to occur in Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat until 9pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a warning issued at 6pm on Facebook, the agency said similar weather conditions are also anticipated throughout Kuala Lumpur and Melaka.
“Stormy weather is also forecasted for parts of Perak (Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Pahang (Bentong), Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Tampin) and Johor (Tangkak and Muar).
“Meanwhile, in East Malaysia, inclement weather is also expected in Sarawak: Samarahan (Simunjan), Sri Aman, Betong (Pusa and Betong), Sibu (Kanowit and Selangau), Kapit (Song, Kapit and Belaga), Bintulu (Tatau and Sebauh) and Miri (Beluru and Marudi), as well as Sabah: Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan and Sandakan),” it said.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding an hour for a single release.
