SHAH ALAM, Oct 19 — The traditional floor design known as rangoli or kolam is displayed in the Selangor State Secretariat Building here symbolises happiness in life.
Selangor Indian Entrepreneur Development (Sitham) programme executive S Wasanthee said the rangoli was crafted by three individuals and took around six hours to complete.
“The rangoli is created every year in various shapes and forms, and this year it is in the shape of a 12-petals lotus which means a colourful life and blooming life.
"The light in the middle of the lamp symbolises happiness and prosperity in the rays of a new life,” she said when met at the officiating ceremony, today.
Earlier on, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari officiated the rangoli in the building.
The Menteri Besar also took the opportunity to light up a candle placed nearby the lotus-shaped rangoli.
The colourful rangoli is made of rice and is displayed in front of the state administration building.
Amirudin was accompanied by state executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail and Hijrah Selangor Foundation chief executive officer Datuk Seri Mohamad Suparadi Md Noor.
Rangoli is synonymous with the Deepavali celebration where its devotees would decorate their houses with it for prosperity.
