SHAH ALAM, Aug 26 — The Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) issued 29 compounds during a sting operation at several illegal waste dumping locations on Monday (August 22)

Its president Najmuddin Jemain said the compounds were issued on grounds of environmental pollution, per the MPKj Bylaw — Collection, Disposal, and Disposal of Garbage 2007.

"During the operations, 27 lorries were also seized, the most this year despite it not being the end of the month yet.

"This indicates MPKj's seriousness in dealing with the issue and its desire to enforce the law," he said during the council's eighth meeting for 2022 on Wednesday (August 24).

On the eradication of the illegal waste sites located at Twin Palms in Bandar Sungai Long Cheras, Najmuddin said the operations and closures are now at 95 per cent, and should be fully completed by today.

"For the land's status, MPKJ has never authorised any party to convert it into an illegal waste disposal site.

"We advise all landowners to be more sensitive and responsible with regards to their properties, and prevent any form of encroachment, including illegal dumping by erecting a fence around the perimeter," he said.

Najmuddin added any costs incurred by MPKj, including controlling and extinguishing fires as well as land repairs will be imposed on the landowners, in the event they fail to obtain planning permission.
