SHAH ALAM, April 15 — The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) is looking to build 1,000 affordable homes every year.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Mahmud Abbas said as a start, some 600 units will be developed this year in several locations including Antara Gapi and Sierra Alam.

“We plan to build 500 to 600 affordable units every year until we reach the 1,000 units threshold.

"In fact, we will hold a ceremony to hand over the keys for 800 affordable homes at Cyberjaya in May," he said.

Meanwhile, the state government has launched another Rumah Idaman project which will be developed in Section U8, Bukit Jelutong, to fulfil the people’s need for an affordable first home.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the development comprises 1,260 units with a total build-up of each unit at 1,000 square feet and is equipped with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

He added each house will be provided with a built-in wardrobe, a kitchen cabinet, an air-conditioner, a water heater, a TV cabinet, a 32-inch TV and a refrigerator.
