SHAH ALAM, Feb 5 — The Selangor government is currently in discussion with egg producers to reduce the price of the product as part of its effort to alleviate the burden faced by the people.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government through the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) has implemented the initiative by selling eggs at RM11.30 per carton compared to the market’s price of RM12.40.
“We do not have any intention to disrupt the market but if possible, we want to reduce the price to help those who are in need. We realised that the price could be reduced, hence the state government gave the offers to help alleviate the burden,” he said when met at Wisma PKPS here today.
Amirudin added that the state government is also dealing with egg producers which leased land owned by a state government subsidiary to ensure adequate supply in Selangor.
“There are several localities which are affected by the supply chain. Sometimes it is not merely about the availability of the product but also related to the product’s grade. The A grade eggs are available but people want to have the C grade eggs.
“Therefore I will continue to monitor this issue and ensure a sufficient supply. In terms of pricing, it would not be too cheap nor too expensive,” he said.
