PETALING JAYA, Feb 22 — The Selangor's free Covid-19 community screening programme to curb the spread of the coronavirus will be continued with 50,000 people in the state expected to be involved.
Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the focus involves high density areas and the bottom 40 (B40) group to ease their burden in doing the test.
Amirudin said the move is to reduce the spread of cases and detect asymptomatic individuals which were previously reported.
“Up to this point, between 500 and 700 people turned up for each programme and for today (yesterday) alone, we have detected five positive cases,” he said during a visit to a screening location at the PJS 6 Community Hall, Petaling Jaya, yesterday.
Meanwhile, Selcare operations manager Mohd Noor Md Nasir said four screening programmes will take place next week involving Shah Alam, Klang, Puchong and Petaling Jaya.
He said the locations will be at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Dewan Kenanga in Section 28 and the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) multipurpose hall in Pendamar Indah 2, Port Klang.
“Besides that, the (other locations include) the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) hall in Puchong Indah and the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) hall in PJS 2C/6 at Taman Dato Harun,” he said.
On January 20, the Selangor government had allocated RM6 million to organise free Covid-19 community testing across the state.
