Air Selangor exceeds non-revenue water reduction rate target in 2019

SHAH ALAM, Aug 18 — Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) has reduced the non-revenue water (NRW) average to 29.6 per cent in 2019, a decrease of 2 per cent compared to the 31.6 per cent recorded in 2018.

In its Performance Report 2019, Air Selangor said the achievement is significantly better than the previous year’s target of 30.6 per cent.

“Air Selangor continued a positive trajectory of reducing the NRW average to 29.6 per cent in 2019. A record low in the history of water supply and distribution industry in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.”

“This was achieved through intensive planning and continuous implementation of several internal initiatives since 2017,” the report read.

The annual report, which was published on August 4, stated that some of the internal initiatives include efforts in reducing pipe burst cases, installation of sensors on the main pipes, replacement of old and damaged meters, as well as the replacement work for the old and frequently burst pipes.

“Based on this record, Air Selangor is confident that the ongoing initiatives and programmes to reduce NRW rates will continue to succeed every year, with a target of 1 per cent reduction in the NRW rates annually,” said Air Selangor.

The company had assigned a dedicate team for the NRM initiatives which comprises of Leak Inspectors (LI) and Leak Specialist (LS), District Metering Zone (DMZ) Teams, Trunk Main Leak Inspection Team, as well as NRW engineers and managers.

Through the initiatives, Air Selangor had replaced a total of 164,283 units of aged meters and 154,556 units of faulty meters under its yearly meter replacement programme.
