SHAH ALAM, July 17 — The Selangor State Legislative Assembly yesterday approved a motion to speed up the old water pipes replacement process to reduce the risk of water disruption.

The motion which was brought by Bukit Gasing state assemblyman R. Rajiv was supported by several State Assemblyman including Bandar Utama state representative Jamaliah Jamaluddin.

Rajiv said cases of broken water pipes have become a norm in Selangor leading to frequent water disruption in housing, commercial and industrial areas.

“We have to look at his issue seriously as Selangor aims to become a Smart State by 2025, therefore the state’s infrastructure should be world-class including the water service,” told Rajiv to the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the replacement of old water pipes to avoid water disruption is currently the main priority of the state.

He said the replacements are made of higher quality and more durable than the existing pipes, which use asbestos cement that easily corrodes.

The Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting was postponed yesterday to a date to be determined later.
