SHAH ALAM, July 1 — The number of dengue cases recorded in Selangor has dropped by 15.2 per cent with a total 30,130 cases registered in epidemic week 26 (June 27), says the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS).

Its director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said this reflects a decrease of 5,411 cases compared to the same period last year, which recorded a total figure of 35,541 cases.

“The Petaling district has the highest number of cases with a total record of 10,655, followed by Klang (5,722), Hulu Langat (5,369), Gombak (4,366) and Sepang (1,674).

“A total of 29 deaths have been reported, which saw a drop in one death compared to the same period last year,” said Dr Sha'ari in a statement yesterday.

He said there is a total of 337 localities of dengue infection, which includes 55 hotspots and 15 new outbreaks.

Dr Sha'ari had urged the public to be proactive in carrying out controlled activities as well as dengue preventive measures to break the chain of infection.

This includes ensuring the environment is clean and clear from mosquito breeding grounds, using insect repellents and suitable outfits during peak biting periods (early in the morning and in the evening before dusk), and reporting to the local authorities on potential Aedes mosquito breeding habitats.
