List of fake news on social media

KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 — The following is an update from the Communications and Multimedia Ministry (MCMC) Quick Response Team on countering fake news related to Covid-19 on social media.

1. Brickfields police chief ACP Zairulnizam Mohd Zainuddin @ Hilmi denies claims that a man lying unconscious in front of a shop in Entrepreneur Park, Kuala Lumpur is positive for Covid-19, as was circulated on social media. He explained that the individual had actually suffered a heart attack, fell and became unconscious and is currently still receiving treatment at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC).

2. The Orang Asli Affairs Department (Jakoa) has denied that the Orang Asli community in Bukit Lagong, Selangor faced famine as a result of a shortage in food supply during the movement control order (MCO) period. Jakoa explained that the community received food basket aid containing essential items like rice, cooking oil, salt, sugar, tea, condensed milk, sardines and soy sauce three times, on April 7, April 16 and May 8. On the same matter, Jakoa also denied giving permission to any party to solicit donations from the public to assist the community, purportedly because they were being neglected during the MCO.
