SHAH ALAM, March 9 — Positive impact on real estate investment and the tourism sector are only noticeable when flood issues are addressed, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Menteri Besar said the completion of the flood mitigation project at TTDI Jaya Shah Alam in 2008 is one of the examples of development that has increased property values to hundreds of thousands.

"The preservation of river morphology is important in order to conserve and protect the original habitat of the flora and fauna. We should take note that beautiful river attracts tourists," Amirudin said at the state administration monthly assembly at Dewan Jubli Perak, Selangor secretariat building (SUK), here today.

He said the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) should carry out river maintenance works using environmentally-friendly methods to maintain the original condition of the place, such as the development of the Kampung Kuantan Fireflies along Sungai Selangor.

Amirudin added that the Sungai Klang's potential was developed as a 'development engine' by approving the Sungai Klang Comprehensive Master Plan or the 'Selangor Maritime Gateway' (SMG) in March 2018.

He said the 120-kilometre Sungai Klang master development plan could attract both domestic and foreign investors.
