SABAK BERNAM, Nov 8 — Ban Canal has the potential to be developed into a permanent recreational and tourism destination, creating a new attraction in Sabak Bernam.

Sabak Bernam Development Area (SABDA) Special Unit head and Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation) or MBI assistant general manager Kamarul Zaki Khalid said the initiative aims to attract more domestic and international tourists to the district.

“The uniqueness of Ban Canal in Sabak Bernam can be highlighted as one of the tourism attractions to introduce the district's distinctive features to domestic and international visitors.

“The plan has also received positive feedback and views from the Integrated Agricultural Development Area (IADA) of Northwest Selangor, the Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS), and the Selangor Forestry Department,” he told the media during the 2026 Selangor Ban Canal Carnival at Ban Canal Parit 4, Simpang Lima yesterday.

Kamarul added that 30 business lots were made available for this year's carnival, up from 16 last year, providing more opportunities for local traders to promote and sell their products.

Holding the carnival at this time of the year also allows visitors to enjoy the lush green paddy fields, showcasing the beauty of Sabak Bernam's agricultural landscape.

He said the programme also aims to raise public awareness of the importance of preserving Sabak Bernam, given the district's significant role in ensuring food security.

Organised by MBI through the SABDA initiative, the 2026 Ban Canal Carnival began on November 6 and features various activities, including a nature heritage run, concert, Night Sub Polo, and sales by local entrepreneurs.

The annual Ban Canal Carnival, first held in 2022, not only benefits the local community and entrepreneurs but also has the potential to attract more private sector participation in exploring business and investment opportunities in Sabak Bernam.
